Shana Moulton was born in 1976 in Oakhurst, USA. Through videos,
installations, and performance, the artist has constructed a unique world
combining spirituality and consumerism. Since 2002 she pursues her
exploration of her alter ego Cynthia, in the privacy of her domestic space.
This otherworldly character creates portals - unexpected connections between
various dimensions, places, and moments from her life.
The sculpture Reaching through the Cosmic Sphere, takes the form of a hand,
in the palm of which are written the names of the different lines used in
palmistry. At the top of each finger, objects emblematic of Cynthia’s character
are represented; symbols of the conflict playing out inside her between
spirituality and consumerism.
