8 galvanized metal doors, wooden posts, soil, spontaneous vegetation
    4 x 4 x 1 m

    Salle Principale, Paris

Lois Weinberger was born in 1947 in Stams (Austria). He lives and works in Vienna and Gars am Kamp (Austria). The artwork Garden comprises eight doors delimiting an enclosure, within which soil is exposed to the natural effects of the elements and local fauna, becoming the territory of spontaneous vegetation. The door has long been a symbol with multiple interpretations, ranging from mystical to bawdy, magical to political. Here, it leaves us on the threshold of two worlds that portend the transition from one state to another. Once the doors are closed, the enclosure of this garden - where no human intervention can disturb the course of a paradoxically liberated nature - questions us as to the human condition and our relationship with the natural world.
