Katinka Bock was born in 1976 in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. She lives and works in Paris and Berlin. The artist brings a poetic, humorous and unconventional presence into the Tuileries garden, one the most beautiful places in Paris. Parasite Fountain revisits the tradition of the fountain. A bronze cast catfish, perched on top of a bronze column, spouts a trickle of water. By means of transparent plastic tubes, the water flow to the existing fountain has been diverted to create a circulation from the original source to the bronze fish. More like a leak than a fountain a such, the sculpture by Katinka Bock acts like a parasite. The artist is interested in movement, circulation, energy and the endless cycle of water which evaporates then refills the fountain through the natural process of rain.
