American sculptor Alexander Calder (1898 - 1976) entitled his work Janey Waney in tribute to Jane Holzer, an American top model of the sixties, now a contemporary art collector. Andy Warhol’s star actress had seen a model of the sculpture in the artist’s studio and suggested that he make a large-scale version. This work is a combination of the artist’s renowned Stabiles and Mobiles. A mobile that rotates 360 degrees crowns the summit of Janey Waney. Among his first red Stabiles, developed in the 1970s, the work is singular in the artist’s production.
