  • Several questions for Edouard Montassut

    Introduce yourself:
I decided to open my gallery in 2015 in a typical Parisian passage in the 2nd arrondissement, in the continuity of my career as a critic. In 2019, the gallery expanded and moved to the ninth arrondissement, a few steps from the previous space. Today, the gallery supports the work of mainly up-and-coming artists.

Why did you decide to open a gallery in Paris ?
It’s a personal choice. Paris is the city where I was born and where I still live, so it’s the city where I have the most sentimental ties and consequently the city where I decided to open the gallery. Paris also remains a central and increasingly dynamic place for contemporary art in my opinion.

Describe the relationship between your gallery and the artists you represent.
It's interesting how often this question comes up. This relationship between galleries and artists must surely be more than just intriguing. I would really describe it as particularly rewarding. It’s also a relationship that builds over time, and which, like any relationship, requires mutual trust and complicity in order to function.

What’s your favorite place for lunch near your gallery ?
Chez Casimir (6 Rue de Belzunce, 75010, Paris).

Can you recommend cool hidden places in Paris?
The café Maure at the Grande Mosquée de Paris (39 rue Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire, 75005, Paris).
