The English sculptor, Phillip King, was born in 1934 in Tunis. He lives and works in London where he produces artworks of remarkable diversity, both in the variety of forms and in the materials used. Slit is a new version of a sculpture invented in 1966. Two open and irregular forms are juxtaposed. Superimposed by two similar forms, they create an original, rhythmic sequence. Rather than relying on a totemic form, a centre, this work is focused on the surrounding space. The colour contrast, - here alternating red and white - is consistently important to Phillip King, whose interest is in forms and colours rather than materials.
