Daniel Turner was born 1983 in Portsmouth, Virginia. He lives and works in New York. The artist presents a suite of five vertical standing bars. Each of the sculptures is cast using aluminium retrieved from a high security psychiatric institution. The aluminum, fiber and steel bars result from a process calibrated on the environment, whereby the artist identifies, archives and recasts both structural and functional materials from a specific site into solid form. Daniel Turner works primarily with a sculptural process involving the manipulation of materials, objects, and environments into tactile or atmospheric forms. These works are characterised by a specific response to a given site, under a controlled set of processes. This approach enables Turner to create form by transposition, thus preserving a sensory link to geographical locations, cultural associations and human contact.
