Gaëlle Choisne : TEMPLE OF LOVE

      5 sept. 2018 > 15 déc. 2018

      Curator : Lucas Morin

Bétonsalon - Centre d'art et de recherche presents TEMPLE OF LOVE, a solo exhibition by Gaëlle Choisne (1985, France) consisting of an in situ sculptural installation questioning the concept of love.
At Bétonsalon, Gaëlle Choisne questions the possibility of love as an attitude and form of resistance, a creator of bonds and a source of deeply political action. In TEMPLE OF LOVE, the artist considers the concept of love as a social issue, both an object of power relations and a driving force for acts of courage and transgression. Through her sculptures, banners and a banquet of sensual oysters, which are all offerings, she invokes the subversive eroticism of the Babylonian goddess Ishtar and the cigarettes of the Haitian voodoo figure Erzulie Dantor. The artist uses the vocabulary of architecture, organic influences, permaculture teachings and an abundance of textile materials to create a common habitat. Gaëlle Choisne reappropriates the attributes of the temple as well as the exhibition space: place of congregation, place of speech, place of refuge where the gaze and speech are created and shared.
