      Light on the collection of paintings preserved at the musée du quai Branly - Jacques Chirac. Near 220 unpublished works reveal the evolution, through the centuries, of the way people were viewed in the West, more or less distant societies and territories.

      For this first exhibition devoted to the collection of paintings kept at the musée du quai Branly - Jacques Chirac, PEINTURES DES LOINTAINS gathers nearly 220 canvases and graphic works - among the 500 works in the collection - dating from the from the end of the 18th century to the middle of the 20th century. A and largely unknown collection, where the odalisque of Ange Tissier rubs shoulders with the portraits of Amerindians of George Catlin, the scenes of daily life Émile Bernard's cairote are next to the prints and Tahitian drawings signed Matisse or Gauguin.

      Dive into the world of the spirits, the horror and fantastic creatures, the exhibition seizes ghost stories in Asia. Through religious art, theatre, cinema, contemporary creation or the manga, a journey to the frontiers of reality.

      Buddhist paintings at J-Horror, prints from Hokusai to Pac-Man, the cult of spirits in Thailand to the horror manga, the figure of the ghost has haunted the Asian imagination for centuries. In China, Thailand or Japan - study fields of the exhibition - the popular craze for the horror is very real, impregnating a great diversity of cultural productions. Wandering spirits of the forest, avenging female cats, ghosts from hell walking dead, vampires. jumpers or yokaïs (creatures of Japanese folklore), their apparitions are multiple and play with epochs and media artistic.

      First major exhibition devoted to the "Great Island" and the art of Madagascar, the exhibition in the museum of the Quai Branly - Jacques Chirac takes place in three large sections to evoke in the way the more complete and the more global these unpublished subjects.

      The musée du quai Branly - Jacques Chirac organizes from Tuesday 27 November 2018 to Sunday 7 April 2019 an exhibition entitled FENDRE L'AIR. The art of bamboo Japanese, dedicated to the art of Japanese baskets, to its collectors and artists.

      This is the first exhibition in Europe devoted to to the art and masters of Japanese bamboo. She aims to make visitors discover the beauty, refinement and the specificity of these works. It brings together approximately 200 baskets and documents that retrace the history of this art, from its secular origin and artisanal up to its most recent developments contemporary.
