Jim Dine was born in 1935 in Cincinnati. He lives and works between Paris and Wala Wala. In 2016, he was invited by the Manufacture of Sèvres / Cité de la Céramique to develop a new series of works. Working in a studio loaned by the museum, Jim Dine has created a spectacular ensemble of ten vases/clay sculptures. Baked and glazed on the premises, with the expertise and traditional techniques of the Sèvres team, these sculptures integrate his handwritten poems as well as sculpted lids made of tools cast in bronze. They offer a reflection on the power of words - poems as vessels - creating connections between tools and language, the sensuality of clay and the harshness of the distorted bronze.
