Folkert de Jong was born in 1972 in Egmond aan Zee, in the Netherlands. He lives and works in Amsterdam.

These three sculptures represent three armored portrayals of Henry VIII at different ages of his life, meeting in The Holy Land. There is the slim, young Henry with the downturned expression of a kindly saint. There is the fashionable Henry, resplendent with scalloped shells of bronze armor appended to his knees, his feet covered with a fine layer of sand. And there is the old Henry whose precarious balance tips him forward, as if he has been freeze-framed a moment before falling. The Holy Land recalls monumental sculptural groups of historical figures acting out ground-breaking scenes from the past. Yet this scene does not feel like official history, but rather a hidden or unseen moment - an uncovered conspiracy from the past.
