Los Carpinteros is a collective founded in 1992 in Havana. Marco Antonio Castillo Valdes, was born in 1971 in Camaguey, in Cuba. Dagoberto Rodríguez Sánchez, was born in 1969 in Caibarién, Las Villas, in Cuba.

Clavo Cuatro – Ocho is a new series of large-scale outdoor sculptures resembling giant rusty, twisted nails which look like they have been extracted and discarded. The theme of failure comes to mind; bent out of shape, they have lost their purpose, when in reality the sculptures have been carefully crafted. The contour resembles sleeping bodies or men fallen during combat. Los Carpinteros are known for sculptural works which disregard the laws of nature - buildings shrink to furniture size and tools grow into brick towers.
