Tadashi Kawamata
Close to the Land Art movement, Tadashi Kawamata, born in 1953 on the island of Hokkaido (Japan), is famous for his ephemeral and often spectacular interventions created from recycled building and construction materials such as scaffolding, wooden boards and beams. Site-specific in the true sense, the artist's works (makeshift cabins, footbridges, bridges and elevated passageways...) are born of the context in which they are installed, and relate intimately to it. They solicit the spectator's participation, both physical and sensorial, and raise questions about the past histories, landscape and architectural features of their environment. For his project in the Tuileries gardens, Tadashi Kawamata, has proposed a series of tree houses, nestled high in the branches of the garden's trees.
