Jacques Julien was born in 1967. He lives and works in Paris and Montdidier.

Jacques Julien’s sculptures recall sports icons as much as they do children’s tales, cartoons or phantasmagorical stories. These references serve as springboards for his spatial and formal digressions, ridding his sculptures of any function or logical meaning and endowing them with both familiar yet incongruous qualities. While the works of Jacques Julien clearly flirt with a form of derision, they are no less analytical and poetic: “My idea of an ideal oeuvre is one which would prompt hearty laughing but in which everything would be achieved with absolute seriousness and solemnity; the context and content would coexist effortlessly”.
