Hera Büyüktaşçıyan was born in Istanbul in 1984 where she continues to live and work.

Freely You Have Received, Freely Give is a proposal for an archaeological garden inspired by the detail of a relief that is located at the entrance gate of the Constantine and Helena Church in Sinasos, a village in Cappadocia, Turkey. Büyüktaşçıyan takes the grape motifs found on the church’s barrel vault ceiling as a point of departure to reflect on the notion of abundance and benevolence that is historically and culturally embodied in the grape. The work draws attention to a way of life, and the idea of production and creation of knowledge that is being transformed globally, or perhaps even retreating and becoming buried in the past. The spectator is thus invited to reflect upon what toll this transformation process is taking on the experience of life.
