Antoni Tàpies was born in 1923 in Barcelona, where he died in 2012.

Llibre i coberts is a large bronze book, a sort of antiphonary engraved with quasi-cabbalistic figures and symbols studded with kitchen implements. Work with objects, which first appeared in his corpus in the early 1970s, takes on different forms in Tàpies’ production: assemblages (such as the image of a chair covered in a humble pasted sheet), ready-made (a simple pile of plates), re-creation (particularly using terracotta models). Everyday objects (chairs, beds, sofas, plates, forks, bathtubs) that form a sort of lexicon of Tàpies work can often be identified.
