Etel Adnan’s leporellos are emblematic of the art of this lebanese-born poetess and painter who is over 90 years old today and living in Paris. Mixing writing and painting on folded Asian booklets, they complement her simple and colourful paintings.

Adnan’s works were brought to the attention of a larger audience during the 2012 documenta in Kassel, and the 2014 Whitney Biennial. Three different museum shows were organized between 2015 and 2016, at the Haus Konstruktiv in Zürich, the Serpentine Gallery in London and the Institut du Monde Arabe, Paris.
