Ernesto Neto was born in 1964 in Rio de Janeiro, where he lives and works.

The large-scale sculpture animal nature is characteristic of Neto's construction method. Steel elements are slotted together in the shape of flowers or foliage. The work resembles a giant toy made of prefabricated components challenging gravity. The sculpture will partly oxidize over time, turning into a deep reddish-brown contrasting with the white or pastel finish of previous works. Neto often plays with the idea that our body naturally serves as a scale reference in his sculptures and large-scale installations. His interest in the human need to interact is reflected in his works. Such is the case for another sculpture from this series that could serve as a bench.
