    • POP ART : Dans les collections du Whitney Museum of American Art

      22 sept. 2017 > 21 jan. 2018

Begun by the famous sculptor and patron of the arts, Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney (1875-1942), the collection of the Whitney Museum of American Art of New York provides a veritable anthology of 20th-century art. The majority of this collection is made up of remarkable artworks from the Pop Art Movement. Including paintings, sculptures, photographs, and prints, a hundred or so works will be presented for the first time in Paris, at the Musée Maillol, from the 22 September 2017 to the 21 January 2018.

From the pioneers of the movement, Robert Rauschenberg and Jasper Johns, to the sculptures and monumental canvases of Claes Oldenburg, Tom Wesselmann, James Rosenquist and Alex Katz, and including prints by Andy Warhol, lithographs by Jim Dine and comics by Roy Lichtenstein, the exhibition offers an exhaustive overview of post-war American art. If the exhibition includes some of its most famous representatives, it also allows the French public to discover some of its lesser-known names. The exhibition at the Musée Maillol will showcase 32 artists from this major art movement, as well as a large variety of artistic techniques or media.

Curator : David Breslin, Director of the Collection of the Whitney Museum of American Art
