Bertrand Lavier
Born in France in 1949, Bertrand Lavier lives and works in Paris. The artist's work may be situated in the tradition of a critical continuation of the questions raised by Marcel Duchamp's ready-mades and the works of the French New Realists of the ‘60's. Thus, in an environment which is socially identified as an exhibition space for works of art, the artist places objects which are borrowed from everyday life, modified or hybridized so as to interrogate their very nature and status. The artist's exploration of artistic categories and of the codes of presentation and representation of art highlights, for example, the function of language and the role of the base in the definition of sculpture.
